Area of Expertise
Amanda Perez provides Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is a therapy designed to teach people how to live in the moment, cope healthily with stress, regulate emotions and improve relationships with others. In DBT, the patient and the therapist work to resolve the seeming contradiction between self-acceptance and change, in order to bring about positive changes in the patient. The modalities of treatment provided: Individual Therapy, Group Therapy, Family Therapy, Phone Coaching for clients actively in treatment and Parent Coaching Sessions.
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and certified school social worker in the state of New Jersey, with experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and families from various demographics. I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through Behavioral Tech and specialize in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and DBT in treating mood disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and personality disorders. I am committed to providing individualized, evidence-based treatment to adults, young adults, adolescents, and their families. I approach therapy with a focus on an individual’s personal strengths, goals, and resources, and am passionate about the collaborative process of therapy.
Prior to starting my own practice, I served as the clinical coordinator in a New Jersey public high school, providing comprehensive therapeutic services including individual, family, and group therapy, as well as facilitating parent support groups and clinical staff supervision. Throughout my career, I also worked as an individual, group, and family therapist in a residential adolescent treatment facility and served as a therapist in an outpatient mental health facility servicing adults and families. Through my work in a therapeutic high school, I provided clinical services, which included co-facilitating the school’s DBT program, providing daily skills training groups, and participating in a DBT consultation team. On an administrative level, I served as a social work supervisor and Supervisor of Special Services in a charter school, providing supervision, oversight, and consultation to students, families, and academic staff, as well as clinical supervision to LSW’s working towards their clinical licenses.
My educational background includes attending New York University’s School of Social Work where I received my Masters in Social Work with a concentration in working with children, adolescents, and families. I completed my internship hours at a therapeutic school where I worked with at risk youth and with NYU’s Upward Bound program, providing counseling services to high school students enrolled in a specialized program promoting and supporting success in their precollege performance and higher education pursuits.
